In Cadaqués 2025: A Photography Extravaganza

The Catalan autumn photography event is making waves on the international artistic scene. While the ninth edition features fewer celebrity photographers, it's still a must-visit affair, showcasing the works of forty artists from twenty countries and hosting no fewer than twenty-five exhibitions. The festival's program is a diverse array of photographic styles, from aesthetic and experimental to documentary and photojournalistic, and even some that defy easy categorization. The connection between people and this land of rocks and light is palpable throughout.

One artist who embodies this connection is Cloé Harent, whose work during her stay at Cap de Creus is a testament to her dedication to raw materials and energies. Her assured yet meditative gaze brings a unique perspective to her art.

Julien Mignot, on the other hand, has turned his gaze towards the horizon. During his residency at the festival, he continues his 'Present Time' project, initially begun in Deauville and later in Mexico. Each view is a long pause, capturing a day from dawn to sunset, a technical marvel and a feeling of frozen, elusive time.

Nyo Jinyong Lian's 'Trust Me' is a thought-provoking series that explores trust and doubt. The artist's work is characterized by a perfectly controlled lucidity, expressing life's aberrations and misinterpretations. The pleasant and aesthetic surface of her images exudes a cultural and intimate subtext, distilling a gentle and unsettling tension.

Lisa Sorgini's 'In-Passing' is a beautiful series that captures the essence of intimacy, motherhood, and life while renewing the narrative. The Australian photographer demonstrates one of the primary functions of photography: penetrating intimate spaces, identity, or mourning, and exploring them through a highly personal visual language.

Lieh Sugai, a Japanese photographer and videographer based in New York, takes a different approach. She explores identity and memory, integrating analog film and chemigram experiment to create organic and textured images that reflect her encounters with fragmented and changing memories. Her series, 'Kaikou' (Encounter), is an attempt at emotional reconciliation between her native country and the United States.

Valentina Sinis, an Italian photographer, offers a sensitive documentary perspective on the lives of Afghan women, through an eye bathed in a benevolent light.

The festival wouldn't be complete without the surrealist touch of Man Ray, whose photographic work is logically installed in the gardens of Casa Dalí, in Port Lligat. Despite being a dabbler in all genres, Man Ray also experimented with still images and was an accomplice to the eccentric Catalan artist. They shared a sense of mystery, aesthetics, and humor, which gave their creations a bold dreamlike quality.

The festival, which seems to be expanding its horizons, continues to offer encounters with the artists, most of whom were present during the first week. This encourages exchanges and sales of works, and the artistic offering is supported by the InPhoto Festival app, which recognizes and provides information on the selected images.
